Diamond Cut Alloys
DJ Alloy Wheel Refurbishment can reproduce a Diamond Cut finish on our state of the art CNC Turning Lathe. Diamond cutting is a very precise process and takes longer to reproduce than a typical powder coated alloy wheel. The refurbishment of diamond cut wheels is impossible to do as a painted repair and in most mobile cases as it requires the use of a CNC lathe. In todays market a lot of manufactorers fit diamond cut alloys to their vehicles from factory as well as aftermarket brands also producing the same CNC finishes. They are a desirable, shiny wheel finish, which can be applied to the full face and lip of the wheel and are combined with 100's of different colours. A number of spectacular finishes can be achieved in our workshop. Customers who have diamond cut alloys on their vehicle may wish to repair their damaged alloys to maximise the resale value, as well as taking pride in their vehicles apperance. During the repair process, the small scuffs and scratches are removed to ensure a flawless factory finish once again.
Diamond cutting involves removing a thin layer of alloy from the wheel using state of the art specialist CNC lathing equipment. Diamond cut wheels can only be refurbished a number of times as too much alloy would eventually be removed causing the integraty of the alloy to be comprimised. With our specialist in house diamond cutting lathe, we will provide you with the highest quality finish in the quickest turnaround time.

Questions and Answers about Diamond Cutting
What is a diamond cut wheel?
This is an alloy wheel which has been put on a lathe and part of or the entire painted surface of the wheel machined off to leave a shiny alloy finish. A small part of the actual alloy is machined off to create this finish. A coat of lacquer is then applied to the frersh cut alloy to prevent corrosion
How do i know if my wheel is diamond cut?
You will be able to see if your wheel is diamond cut upon close inspection you will see very fine lines which has been created by the presision cutting machine. The appearance of the face of the wheel is very shiny. This may be harder to distinguish if you wheels are of direty, of poor quality and are old or corroded. Not all alloy wheels can be diamond cut as it depends on the profile of the face of the wheel. Your specialist wheel technician will inspect your wheel and confirm if it is possible.
How long does a diamond cut finished wheel last?
Depending on how well you look after your wheel, diamond cut wheels will not retain their finish for as long as a powder coated wheel. Any damage caused to the lacquer on a diamond cut wheel, however small, will allow water to seep in-between the lacquer. This will result in “milky patches” being left on the finished area. Always ask your specialist wheel technician if you have any concerns with your wheel.
How many times can you re cut/refurbish a diamond cut wheel?
Depending on repair required to the diamond cut, on average this will requuire cutting the wheel one to two times. However, if the technician feels that the wheel will be compromised in any way or weakened they will not cut the wheel. If this is the case, we can still repair the wheel using our powder coating technique for your refurbishment. To ensure the best repair, each wheel will be individually assessed first. It is important to inform the technician if you have had had your wheels repaired before using any of the techniques.
Whilst the diamond alloy is highly desired, one of the common downsides is corrosion. Over time, damage, scuffs and chips will allow water to get behind the lacquer on the face of the wheel which will cause a cloudy appearance. However, repairs are possible. The alloy wheel is gently blasted to remove old layers of lacquer and paint, this is to ensure a smooth surface for the repairs. Once the tyre has been taken off, air pockets are removed from the alloy wheel using a de-gassing process. A powder coated primer is then applied and heat cured. A second coat can be added if a particular effect is required.
Once cooled, the wheel is put on a specialist CNC lathe and a thin layer is cut from the alloy. A clear lacquer is then applied and the wheel is returned to the oven for a final curing. The specialist design of our cutting lathe allows for the quickest turnaround time but ensuring the most precise repair.
A variety of base coat colours can be used to create impressive, eye-catching wheels. Amongst diamond cut wheels, we can also apply alternative finishes to the wheel. To give your vehicle a truly unique look a colour change will give a great bespoke look. After the wheel has been prepared, the desired colour powder coat finish is applied and cured. A wide range of colours are available, whether you want to match the alloys to your car or create a bespoke look personal to you.
