DJ Alloy Wheel Refurbishment provides an efficient, cost effective alloy wheel refurbishment service that reproduces OEM manufacturer's quality at a fraction of the cost of new wheels.
“Powder coating” is a technique which consists of powder that is applied as a electrostatically charged dry powder. The main difference between conventional 2k liquid paint and powder coating is that powder coating is much more hard waring and is designed for an industrial wear and tear environment. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a durable “skin”. It is usually used to create a hard long lasting finish that is tougher than conventional 2k paints. Powder coating is mainly used for coating metals such as outdoor furniture, frames, wheels, machinery and much more.
The powder coat process involves removing the tyres and stripping the wheel back to bare metal to remove all existing coatings. Wheel inspection takes place to ensure there isn’t pre-existing damage such as kerbing, buckled/bent alloy or corrosion. If damage is present, this will be repaired by our in-house technicians.
After close inspection, the wheel is heated to a high temperature to discharge any moisture from the wheel. Your desired colour is then applied using the powder coating process, you are able to choose from our vast colour range or simply return to the manufacturers colour match. The wheel is then cured in our industrial oven and then is finished with a durable satin, matt or gloss powder lacquer. This process will produce not only a flawless looking wheel but will be highly sustainable in a tough environment. The final step of the process is to re-fit the tyres and put them back on your vehicle.
If your wheels are diamond cut, an additional process is used to revert the wheel back to its original condition. This process is done on our state of the art CNC Diamond Cutting tip lathe. Prior to applying the different powder coating and techniques a fine skim of metal is removed from the face of the wheel which will remove any imperfections caused by Kerbing or damaging the face of the wheel. The result will give you that showroom bright polished aluminium look as you see on most modern factory wheels of today.
To ensure long lasting durability for your alloy wheels, we recommend our exclusive refurbishment procedure.
- Firstly, your wheels will be acid stripped and steam cleaned, this removes all the old paint coatings
- Depending on the condition of your wheel we will either sand blast or vapour blast it. Kerb damage is also removed during this process
- Your alloy wheels are then placed in an industrial oven & preheated to remove any gas trapped within the aluminium alloy
- The wheels are removed from the oven and a high build powder coat primer is applied
- The entire wheel is then powder coated in primer and replaced back in the oven to cure
- Whether you have opted for a colour change or simply put back to manufacturers condition this stage is then applied and returned to the oven
- Once removed from the oven, a final application of powdered lacquer is applied to create the final finish
